GAIN MENTAL TOUGHNESS with

Individual Sessions

Crafting Your Personal Game Plan

These sessions are between me and you. I hope to provide a safe space for you to talk about anything you wish.

Exceptions:
1) Client is at risk of self-harm or harm to others.
2) we agree that it would be best to share something with a third party for the client’s benefit.

Don’t expect a quick fix.

Our sessions are about helping players understand roots of any issues they experience on court, and develop strategies to use independently on and off court. The key word here is independence.

Through these sessions, we will help you build your own psychological tool-kit, so that you can rely on these strategies well beyond our sessions have ended.

This can take time and to an extent depends on which stage the client is at in the 3A’s (Awareness, Acceptance, Action). I’d recommend giving it at least 5 sessions before evaluating whether we’ve been successful in reaching our goal and whether you’d like to continue

Homework to ensure you are working on developing qualities (i.e. the 5C’s) as well as practising specific strategies outside of our sessions.

Just like you would need to practice consistently to improve your form and technique on court, mental skills are no different.

Mental competencies are also only developed through practice. Homework is also a way for you to be accountable to yourself in ensuring that you are taking the steps necessary to become the best version of yourself

After each session, I write up a report summarising the session, provide my own points for reflection and future discussion, and describe a plan of action for future sessions to help you reach your goals.

These reports can serve as a reminder of the things we’ve discussed, any homework that was administered, illustrate progress towards goals, and provide further points of reflection so that you are working towards building your mental competencies outside of our sessions.

Our sessions are all about us working TOGETHER to reach goals that we set out in our first session. For us to work well together, I need to know what you like and what you don’t.

What you find helpful and what you don’t. Then I can do more of the things you like, and adapt the things you don’t. I welcome any feedback from clients and parents (you can choose to tell me in our sessions directly or fill out an anonymous feedback form).

As people, we are always learning – lets learn to be our best selves, together.

Sessions are usually held at a player’s regular training facility (whether that is IRC, LRC, Parkview etc.).

However, I will make my best possible effort to come to whichever location is most convenient for you. Other possibilities include arranging sessions in a private room at my co-working space in Kennedy Town or online sessions.

Adults (team trainings)

Online learning

  • We are making it a point to organise more online workshops and forums to appeal to a wider audience (i.e. 1 every 3 months)
  • If there are any specific topics you would like us to address, please reach out or fill in this short form
  • If you have signed up for a workshop but are unable to make it on the day, recordings will be sent along with any exercises (and results) that were conducted during the workshop. Your coaches and I will be available to answer any questions you may have after viewing the material.

FAQ Sports Psychology with Tennisasia

Sports psychology is a specialized discipline that delves into the interplay between psychological factors and athletic performance. It helps players harness the power of their mind to boost their performance, manage stress, and build resilience both on and off the court.

The cognitive-behavioral approach in sports psychology focuses on how an athlete’s thoughts, emotions, and behaviors intertwine. For instance, a player’s anxiety about a match might stem from the fear of embarrassment. By addressing and reshaping these cognitive patterns, we can help players respond more effectively to high-pressure situations.

Our program aids players in recognizing the link between their thoughts, feelings, and on-court actions. By working on the mental aspects of the game, players often find they can react faster, strategize better, and maintain composure in tense moments.

The ‘5Cs’ are core mental skills and qualities we aim to nurture in athletes: Commitment, Communication, Concentration, Control, and Confidence. Each ‘C’ offers a unique set of tools and strategies to amplify an athlete’s prowess, both physically and mentally.

Our sessions are collaborative and tailored to your unique needs. The first session delves into understanding your goals and aspirations. Subsequent sessions involve exploring past matches, reflecting on performances, and undertaking exercises to hone the ‘5Cs’. Regular feedback is encouraged to ensure the strategies resonate with you.

Results vary for each individual. Some might experience shifts immediately, while for others, it may take longer. We usually recommend a minimum of five sessions to assess progress. Remember, the journey involves Awareness, Acceptance, and Action – and progress is made at each step.

We’ve had numerous testimonials from athletes who’ve benefitted immensely from our sessions. Their feedback ranges from improved focus during matches, better stress management, to enhanced communication with teammates. Feel free to browse through our testimonial section for detailed experiences.
